Nat’l-Level Tree Planting Ceremony: President led the planting of a tama sapling

The 2026 monsoon season national-level tree planting ceremony was held Monday morning within the premises of the Myanmar Railway Station and the Railway Concrete Factory in Minbu Township, Minbu District, Magway Region.

President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar U Min Aung Hlaing attended the event and led the planting of a ‘tama’ sapling. First, President U Min Aung Hlaing delivered an address. He stated that during last year's monsoon season, a national-level tree planting ceremony was successfully held in Minbu Township together with local residents, and 1,000 trees were planted.

Today, at the tree planting ceremony in Minbu, a total of 3,000 trees of 8 native species will be planted. He explained that these monsoon season tree planting ceremonies are held with the objectives of creating a green, lush, and beautiful environment; promoting a balanced and favorable climate; maintaining a stable and healthy ecosystem; preventing natural disasters and raising public awareness about forest conservation. He noted that due to sparse forest cover, Country's central dry zone region has been recorded as having some of the highest temperatures in the world.

In 2024, Chauk Township reached a record high of 48.2°C; in 2025, it reached 45.3°C; and this year, it has reached 44.9°C. He also mentioned that 12 major towns in the dry zone have recorded temperatures of 41°C and above. As a result, heat relief shelters have been opened every summer to provide elderly citizens with a place to rest and recover from extreme heat.

The President continued, stating that "planting and maintaining forests and trees brings comprehensive benefits and is also a way of building a better future for the nation."

He urged everyone to take seriously the policy of "Let us protect the natural environment for the prosperity of the nation," and called for collective participation as a national duty in tree planting and conservation efforts across the country, including in the 13 dry zones, in order to combat desertification, promote greenery and prosperity in dry zones, and achieve a more balanced and favorable climate.

Following that, President U Min Aung Hlaing led the planting of a tama sapling at the designated site.

Afterward, members of the delegation accompanying the President, Chief Ministers and officials from Sagaing Region, Magway Region, and Mandalay Region, local residents, and other attendees participated in planting trees with enthusiasm.

The President and officials toured the grounds to observe and encourage the tree planting activities.

Subsequently, the President and officials inspected the Min Hla–Minbu railway section at the Minbu Railway Station, as well as the site along the strand road in Minbu where restoration and construction work is planned. The President provided necessary guidance and instructions in response to reports submitted by responsible officials, it’s reported.
