

According to the Apiculture Department, Sagaing region contributes 60% of overall honey production in Myanmar.
Almost 4,000 tons of honeys produced in Myanmar are exported to the international market and the remaining stock is distributed domestically. There are nearly 900 beekeepers in Myanmar traveled across the country with 200,000 beehives to produce honey. Myanmar produced at nearly 6,000 metric tons of honey every year.
The beekeepers are mobile workers who have to carry beehives without having settle in one place and move to the areas where flowers and crops bloom seasonally. The honeybees usually pollinate plum, lychee, niger, sunflower, pigeon pea, rubber, monsoon sesame, corn and various vegetables in bloom, it’s learnt.
