Ministerial Meeting: 27th ASEAN Transportation Ministers’ Meeting held

The Cambodia hosted the 27th ASEAN Transportation Ministers’ Meeting via Video Conferencing System on 11 November. Also ASEAN-China Transportation Ministers’ Meeting and US-ASEAN Business Council (US-ABC) meeting were held. The meetings were attended by the transportation ministers from 10 ASEAN countries and China, ASEAN secretary general, officials from US-ABC and Myanmar delegation led by the Union Minister for Transport and Communications Admiral Tin Aung San.

During the meeting, the ministers exchanged views on the completion of countries and regional implementation in various forms of transportation sector included in Kuala Lumpur Transport Strategic Plan (2016-2025), implementation of ASEAN’s single airway and waterway market, Singapore-Kunming Railway Project, ASEAN highway road network and implementation of easy and smooth ASEAN transportation framework, shifting logistic sector into digital system and the cooperation in transportation sector between ASEAN and China. 

The union minister participated in the discussion of changing freight transportation and logistics into digital system as Myanmar also had to impose restrictions on freight transportation and logistics for the prevention of COVID-19 infection, has impact on the small and medium scale industries to some extent. So, application of digital system becomes a must to overcome the challenges.

In the afternoon, 20th ASEAN-China Transportation Ministers’ Meeting and the dialogue between ASEAN Transportation Ministers and US-ASEAN Business Council took place. The 19th ASEAN-Japan, 12th ASEAN-Korea transportation ministers’ meetings and the special meetings between ASEAN transportation ministers and dialogue partners and development partnership countries will be continued on November 12, it’s reported.
