



Mikheil Kavelashvili, a member of the governing Georgian Dream Party, was inaugurated as Georgia’s sixth president on Sunday in Tbilisi.
He took the oath of office in a ceremony at the parliament building, attended by lawmakers and government officials. Kavelashvili, 53, was elected on December 14 by a 300-seat electoral college, replacing the direct presidential election system introduced in 2017. Outgoing president Salome Zurabishvili reaffirmed her position and expressed her intention to remain engaged in political affairs after the ceremony.
