A discussion on “From Cotton Cultivation to Textile Industries” was held in Magway City Hall, on Sunday, with the attendance of President U Min Aung Hlaing. In his opening speech, the President called for greater efforts to develop cotton cultivation and cotton-based industries.

He said Myanmar has strong agricultural potential and urged to focus on producing value-added products instead of exporting only raw materials. He added that developing agro-based industries will help increase national income, create job opportunities, and support industrial growth.

The President highlighted the importance of improving cotton quality through better seeds, soil management, irrigation, and modern farming methods. He said cotton can support various industries, including cotton yarn, textiles, oil production, and animal feed. Noting the increased cotton cultivation in recent years, the President urged relevant ministries, farmers, and businesses to cooperate in boosting production and achieving higher yields.

The President and party later proceeded to Regional Research Center of the Agricultural Research Department under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, and viewed the high quality seeds of paddy, oil crops and cotton, test production of organic fertilizer and natural pesticide as well as the operation processes at the Nano Technology for Seed Treatment.

The President instructed for boosting per acre yield and conducting research for producing quality seeds locally. They then viewed the research plantation of crops and its produces.
