Mayotte's shanty towns are getting back on their feet after cyclone Chido

In Mayotte, two weeks after cyclone Chido devastated the island, the shanty towns are getting back on their feet, despite Prime Minister François Bayrou's promise to 'prevent the reconstruction' of these precarious settlements, where a third of the population lives.

For several days now, the dull sound of tools working on sheet metal has echoed through the Cavani Sud neighborhood of huts, stretching for miles along the hillside. A resident said most of the houses they are building currently are still in a poor state of repair and some are even worse than before.
