Magway Region Trip: Senior General Visits Ancient City Of Beikthano

Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla and many other high ranking officials on Wednesday visited the ancient city of Beikthano.

The city in Taungdwingyi Township of Magway Region was inscribed by UNESCO on its List of World Heritage Sites. During the visit, at the Museum, the Senior General heard explanation on history of Beikthano, Hanlin, and Sri Ksetra, the ancient cities of the Pyu Kingdom, which were inscribed by UNESCO on its List of World Heritage Sites in Southeast Asia in 2014 for their archaeological heritage and conservation process.

In his response, pledging to provide assistance, the Senior General higlighted the importance of conservation of the ancient cities of Beikthano, Hanlin, and Sri Ksetra and continuous excavation process. He also stressed that heritage conservation and knowing the history will help the people love their country.

The Senior General and party also viewed the items on display at the Museum, heard explanations by the concerned officials and gave necessary instructions. In the ancient city of Beikthano, they also visited the KKG-2, KKG-3 and KKG-4 buildings as well as BTO- 1, BTO- 2, BTO- 3,  BTO- 4, BTO- 5 and many other sites and gave instructions.

Beikthano is located 12 miles west of Taungdwingyi Township of Magway Region. In October 1996, Beikthano, Hanlin and Sri Ksetra were proposed to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This proposal was approved by UNESCO in the 38th session of the World Heritage Committee held in 2014 in Doha, Qatar.
