Drifting sand and dust blanketed northeast provinces in China on Thursday. The sandstorms impacted several cities including capital city Harbin. The provincial weather service forecast that in the coming 24 hours, floating sand and dust together with strong winds were expected to sweep urban areas across the region.
The locals are reminded to avoid outdoor activities and wear masks to prevent potential hazards to their health. Except in the coastal regions, most of areas experienced similar weather conditions. The provincial meteorological observatory issued a blue alert for strong winds. It also forecast that the sandy weather will tail off on Thursday night due to the cold air.
