Dazzling light shows lit up two Chinese cities on Sunday night as part of the celebrations for the upcoming 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The ancient city of Xi'an and the coastal city in the eastern Shandong Province came to life in a sea of colors, with tens of thousands of LED lights illuminating some of their landmarks.

The light show in Xi'an covered many popular tourist destinations, shopping streets, and rows of skyscrapers. The festive mood will continue with more than 100 artistic performances such as the one held on the 600-year-old city wall set to be staged during the National Day holiday, which gets underway on Oct. 1. The light shows will last until Oct. 7, which is the end of the National Day.
