Leading Committee for Safety Inspection of Earthquake-Damaged Buildings held its meeting on Thursday. Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant highlighted the need to carry out rehabilitation work based on experiences and findings from recent inspections.

He emphasized the importance of prioritizing damage severity to determine whether buildings require minor or major rehabilitation, or removal due to safety risks. Attendees discussed strategies to address challenges posed by the earthquake in accordance with international standards, reviewed the current damage assessments, and examined the completion status of inspection processes.

Stressing the importance of building a safer and more resilient society, the Union Minister called for discussions on publishing the Myanmar National Building Code (MNBC) 2025, including necessary amendments to the existing MNBC 2020.
