Ozempic, an anti-diabetic drug, is growing in popularity in Kosovo despite not being sanctioned for weight loss. The drug is in high demand in a country where over half the population is overweight, pushing up prices. Health officials have raised concerns about misuse, as the drug was approved for diabetes treatment, not obesity.

Reports of abuse have surfaced since Ozempic was added to the list of authorized medications. Efforts to inform the public about its proper use have been made, but misuse continues. Kosovars turning to the drug include those seeking a solution for long-term weight problems.

The country's 1,500 private pharmacies make it difficult to control distribution, with just 20 inspectors to oversee the sector. Some individuals express regret when the drug doesn’t produce the desired results, citing wasted time and money.
