The Ministry of Health is implementing processes to reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses for the public and to improve the quality of treatment in public hospitals by ensuring that people have access to necessary, internationally-standard treatments within the country.
In line with this, kidney transplant surgeries are being performed domestically for kidney disease patients at the 500-bed Specialty Hospital in Yangon, the Mandalay General Hospital, and the 1000-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital.
On the morning of October 22, Union Minister for Health Professor Dr. Thet Khaing Win, accompanied by responsible officials, met with the patients who underwent the second and third kidney transplant surgeries and their donors at the 1000-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital.
The Union Minister offered them words of encouragement and presented them with the gifts of food. Subsequently, he met with and encouraged the hospital superintendent, professors/senior consultants, and nurses who participated in the kidney transplant surgeries, and gave instructions regarding the necessary measures for the continuous performance of kidney transplant surgeries.
The second kidney transplant surgery at the 1000-bed Nay Pyi Taw General Hospital was performed on October 16, 2025, on a 31-year-old male kidney patient from Zabuthiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, and his 43-year-old male donor, who is his elder brother.
