Judo Tournament 2019: 1st Universities And Colleges Judo Tournament After 1988

The 2-day Myanmar Universities and Colleges Judo Tournament 2019 entered its final day at Aung San Stadium in Yangon on Tuesday.

Organized by Myanmar Judo Federation, the tournament aims to promote Judo sport in Myanmar and to turn out talented Judo Players. This is the first Universities and Colleges Judo Tournament held after 1988. Students from 8 universities including Yangon University, Dagon University, University of Medicine, Myanmar Maritime University, 2 universities from Mawlamyine and Hpa-An University participated in this two-day event.

Vice President, Myanmar Judo Federation, Oo Oo Khaing said “Myanmar Judo Federation is working on two main tasks - to spread Judo among students and youths and for the SEA Games. We should play Judo as it gives strength along with self-defence. We organized Judo tournaments universities including Dagon and Yangon universities last year. This one is the first Universities and Colleges Judo Tournament after 1988. Over 100 students participated in this tournament in which training was provided to the participants.”

First, second and third trophies were presented to the winners. One of the players expressed his feelings on Judo Sport and his preparation for this event.

Student, Dagon University, Nanda said “As preparation, I trained after my classes. I also swim to build up stamina. I feel strong and fit after playing Judo. I'm very happy to participate in this event. I’d like to urge young people to play Judo to get healthier.”  

It's also learned that Myanmar Judo Federation is conducting training to Judo players in collaboration with the Head Coach from Japan. Also, the Federation is giving training to the National Team for the 30th SEA Games. Plans are underway to organize Japan Cup in coming years.
