Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force has unveiled a launcher used for Hyper Velocity Gliding Projectiles, or HVGPs, for the first time since their deployment earlier this year. HVGPs are a kind of extended-range missile that can be used as part of Japan's counterstrike capabilities.

The launcher used for Type 25 HVGPs was shown during an annual live-fire exercise at the GSDF's East Fuji Maneuver Area in Shizuoka Prefecture on Sunday. Drills would also be conducted on Sunday night. The exercise is expected to consume a total of around 69.5 tons of ammunition worth around 820 million yen, or 5.1 million dollars.
