Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said that Japan, as chair of G-7 and India chairing G-20 this year, hoped to discuss fully what roles Japan and India should play in the international community, while deepening their bilateral strategic partnership.

Kishida is expected to show Japan’s commitment to deepen G-7 involvement with the global south communities and possibly ask India to play a leading role to represent voices of the global south, while Japan serves as a bridge between them. The Japanese leader invited his Indian counterpart to the G7 Hiroshima summit meeting to take place in May, which Modi accepted.
