Japan pledges support for energy sectors of Saudi Arabia, other Gulf states

Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu on Wednesday announced a comprehensive plan to support the economies and energy sectors of Saudi Arabia and other five Gulf nations. Meeting with Saudi officials in Riyadh, Motegi stated that Japan will help boost regional oil reserves via the "POWERR Asia" initiative.

The Saudi side welcomed Japan’s initiative, and said they will act positively toward securing energy supplies for the international market, including Japan. Led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, POWERR Asia is a $10 billion regional initiative launched by Japan in April 2026.
