Japan Judo Cup: About 40 Teams Participate In 4-Day Competition

The 15th Japan Judo Cup Championship 2019 kicked off at Aung San Indoor Stadium in Yangon on Tuesday.

The Embassy of Japan and Myanmar Judo Federation (MJF) co-hosted the competitions, with the support of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Myanmar (JCCM) and Yangon Japanese Association.

Ambassador, Embassy of Japan (Myanmar), Ichiro MARUYAMA said “Myanmar Judo Federation is organizing the competitions and support for Judo players enthusiastically. That’s why, we are sharing the techniques to the players in cooperation with MJF. This is the basic purpose of organizing this annual competition. Myanmar players have really strong talents and they’ve brought gold medals in ASEAN and SEA Games competitions at most. So, I really hope Myanmar talented players to join 2020 Olympic Competition, which will be held in Japan.”

Through these annual competitions, Myanmar talented players have been invited by Japan for a visit and cultural exchanges.

President, Myanmar Judo Federation (MJF), Tun Tun said “We want Judo sport to develop in Myanmar as being the game brought by General Aung San to our country. At the same time, Japan has been supporting by the various sectors for Judo sport in Myanmar. So, this can promote the bilateral relationships and cultural exchanges between the two entities of Myanmar and Japan.”

Judo players from nearly 40 teams from Regions and States are competing by respective weight classes in 3-day event.

The outstanding players from the competition will be trained for the upcoming SEA Games, which will be held in the Philippines.

Judo Player, Aung San Maw (Defence) said “I competed here for the weight division of 100 kg or less, targeting to get gold medal. I won today and I will try hard for next round competitions.”

The competition will run from 17th to 20th of September and the outstanding players and teams will be awarded on the final day of the event.
