The Italian solidarity machine was in full swing for Ukraine, with the Italian Red Cross preparing to send four trucks of food, medicines and blankets from the coordination center of Avezzano.

The Italian government has approved $122 million to help care for Ukrainians fleeing war in their homeland. The aid, decided at a Cabinet meeting on Monday, includes 13,000 additional places for refugees in special centers run by interior ministry officials throughout the country.

Many of those arriving in Italy from Ukraine are expected to be relatives of some of the 250,000 Ukrainians with Italian residency permits who already work or live in Italy.

The government also allocated 500,000 Euros for Ukrainian students, researchers and professors at Italian universities and music institutions so they can continue their activities in Italy, including through scholarships.
