On 31st August, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw, accompanied by relevant officials from the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department conducted a comprehensive inspection of the YeZin Dam where they oversaw water inflow, storage capacity and structural integrity.
As of 31st August, the YeZin Dam has received over 43 inches of rainfall, resulting in the storage of approximately 49,000 acre-feet of water. With a current depth of 89.57 feet, an additional 9.43 feet is required to reach the dam's full capacity.
In 2017, the YeZin Dam successfully reached full capacity and since then, it has experienced only regular water inflow. As a result, this year’s water inflow is more favorable. Based on previous year’s dam storage, approximately 1,500 acres of summer paddy and over 2,500 acres of other summer crops, including sesame, mung beans, and sunflowers were cultivated.
With current storage conditions, plans are in place to cultivate about 3,000 acres of summer paddy and 4,500 acres of oil crops this year, totaling 7,500 acres. This is approximately 2.5 times more than previous year. If water inflow increases during the late monsoon, more crops could be planted beyond current plans.
The Deputy Minister and party then inspected the YeZin Dam, including the Rock Toe, drainage pipes, water diversion facilities and V-Notch. It’s reported that the dam and all associated structures are in good condition, with regular checks by on-duty staff.
