Under the US-Iran peace framework, ships can pass through the Strait of Hormuz toll-free for 60 days. However, Iran's chief negotiator stated the strait will not return to pre-war conditions, confirming Tehran will charge "service fees" for navigation and security after the 60-day period expires.

The MOU deal allows for commercial vessels to transit the vital waterway without charge for two months while long-term maritime administration is negotiated. Iranian officials maintain they are not levying "transit tolls," but rather charging for "services" such as security, insurance, and environmental protection.
