Talks between Iran and global powers continued on Saturday in an attempt to restore the landmark 2015 agreement to contain Iranian nuclear development, which had been abandoned by the U.S. during the Trump administration. Senior diplomats from China, Germany, France, Russia, and Britain met at a hotel in the Austrian capital. Russian representative said the talks may need a "couple of weeks" in order to "clean up the existing text". Alain Matton from the European Union said the talks were "making progress" but those negotiations were "intense". The United States is not formally part of the Vienna meetings, but President Joe Biden's administration has signalled a willingness to rejoin the deal under terms that would broadly see the U.S. scale back sanctions and Iran return to 2015 nuclear commitments. Diplomats say complicating factors include the sequence of the proposed measures and presidential elections in Iran next week.
