Iran and Oman to cooperate on Hormuz Strait

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei recently said that Tehran is continuing discussions with Oman regarding the Strait of Hormuz and called on countries that support “freedom of navigation” to help ensure maritime security in the region.

According to Reuters, Baghaei stated that Iran and Oman are working on a mechanism for “sustainable security” in the Strait of Hormuz, including arrangements for safe maritime traffic. The statement comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf after months of conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, which disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
