





The ceremony to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in Magway Region was held on October 13, at the Magway City Hall. Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin attended and delivered the opening address.
In his speech, Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin stated that currently, climate change events are increasingly occurring, and as a consequence, natural disasters are being experienced worldwide. At the global conference on reducing disaster risk, the Sendai Framework (2015-2030) was endorsed with four priority actions and seven targets. Myanmar is also implementing these actions in cooperation with ASEAN member countries at the regional level. To reduce losses caused by natural disasters, it is necessary to harness the collaborative strength of capable new generations of youth and to work together within respective sectors to build a resilient human community capable of withstanding natural disaster impacts.
Following that, a video message from the UN Secretary-General, a commemorative video for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, and an earthquake awareness video were shown. Additionally, a group commemorative photo was taken for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, and the commemorative event was successfully completed, it’s reported.
