Indonesian President Joko Widodo has disclosed a possible plan to import rice next year to secure domestic needs. Speaking during a visit to the government’s rice reserve at bulog’s warehouse in Bogor, President Joko Widodo said that the government’s plan on procurement of imported rice is aimed at strengthening domestic rice reserve.

Jokowi said this additional rice import plan is not meant for this year, but will be carried out next year.  The move is also meant to curb price increase in the market due to the El Nino phenomenon, which is also occuring in several other countries.
