Indonesia blocks over 800,000 online gambling websites

Indonesia's Communication and Informatics Ministry has shut down over 800,000 online gambling websites and betting-related contents operating in the country, in the last five years.

The country’s Minister of Communications and Informatics said that from July 2018 to August this year, his office has blocked a total of 886,719 online gambling websites and applications. He added many of the blocked sites and apps have tried to go back online with new names.

He also said ministry actively blocks access to between 1,500 and 2,000 the gambling websites every day.The minister said developers of online gambling slots can earn up to tens of billions of U.S Dollar in a short time and the ministry will also immediately coordinate with the national police to support the process of prosecuting online gambling perpetrators including the developers bookmakers sponsors and those who promote and work behind such activities in Indonesia.
