Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Kyaw Tun attended the India Maritime Week 2025, held at the NESCO Exhibition Center in Mumbai on October 28.

In the afternoon, he joined the event on “Fortifying Global Supply Chains,” organized by the Jawaharlal Nehru Ports Authority, together with India’s Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Shantanu Thakur. The event aimed to strengthen India’s role as a global logistics and manufacturing hub, enhance maritime trade infrastructure, and improve regional connectivity.

In his address, U Aung Kyaw Tun emphasized that building strong supply chains is essential for economic growth and cooperation. He highlighted Myanmar’s strategic position as a connectivity hub between South Asia and Southeast Asia, noting that projects like the Sittwe Port and Kaladan Multimodal Transport Project are key to linking India’s eastern ports with its landlocked northeastern states.

He also mentioned the India-Myanmar-Thailand Highway Project as a major land route connecting India directly to ASEAN markets. The Deputy Minister said Myanmar aims to modernize its transport and port systems, promote digital transformation through Single Window Systems, and encourage private sector participation in logistics and infrastructure development.

Later, Myanmar and India officials held a bilateral meeting to discuss cooperation on Coastal Shipping Agreements, Seafarer Training and Certification, Simulator-based Assessment Systems, Ship Tracking (LRIT), and Protection & Indemnity insurance for Myanmar-registered vessels entering India.
