Pope Leo XIV recently warned that human voices and faces must be protected in the age of AI, especially as technologies like deepfakes, AI avatars, and voice cloning become more realistic. He said this could damage authentic human communication and create confusion between reality and simulation.

The Pope warned these technologies may spread misinformation, manipulate emotions, damage reputations and deceive the public. He even mentioned a fake AI-generated video showing “the Pope falling down stairs,” which fooled some people online. He criticized overdependence on algorithms and AI chatbots.
