Htamane or glutinous rice cooking festival is a traditional yearly event in Myanmar and it is held around the Full Moon Day of Tabodwe throughout the whole country.

As a gesture of hailing 75th Anniversary Union Day, the Information and Public Relations Department in Yangon Region held a collective Htamane cooking festival. The festival was organized by the staff families of IPRD, aiming to have friendship and cooperation among each other.

During the festival, glutinous rice with ginger, coconut, peanuts and lots of sesame are cooked in a giant pan and the delicacy is wrapped in banana leaves and given to neighbours and friends.

As per custom, Myanmar people offer the first portion of this delicacy to the Lord Buddha and Buddhist monks and the rest is delivered to neighboring to everyone. In some areas of the country, a dobat or traditional drum music troupe performs to encourage the Htamane makers.
