Honey Export to World Market: Domestic honey consumption has increased to 20%

The Apiculture Division under the Livestock, Breeding and Veterinary Department exported 691.34 metric tons of honey to the South Korea, Japan, US and Singapore from April to July of this fiscal year.

Exported honeys include rubber honey, plum honey, multi-flower honey and sesame honey. Beekeeping is also beneficial for farmers because it helps to improve the quality and quantity of crops with pollinate.

Myo Tin, Deputy Director, The Livestock, Breeding and Veterinary Department said "The consumption of honey has increased more than the previous year. People are used as a medicine during the COVID period and the domestic honey consumption has increased to 20%. Because of that, 2000 tons of honeys are consumed domestically. We open the training courses for Private beekeepers and workers to share the modern techniques of beekeeping. The Livestock, Breeding and Veterinary Department conduct 5 courses for 6 times per year and over 3000 trainees have attended. Also, we manage systematically to the seasonal move of beekeeping and focus on the beekeeping progress in this year."

Honey from Myanmar is mainly exported to the world market but due to the increase of local consumption, about half of honey productions are selling in the domestic market this year.
