During the state visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing and wife Daw Kyu Kyu Hla arrived at the iconic Patuxai (Victory Gate) in Vientiane on Saturday. Upon arrival, responsible authorities provided a detailed briefing on the monument’s historical background, architectural design, and cultural significance.
The President and wife also toured the interior of the structure, observing various artistic works and decorative features displayed within the monument. Patuxai (Victory Gate) is one of Laos’ most famous national landmarks, located in the capital city of Vientiane.
It was constructed between 1957 and 1968 and is dedicated to those who fought for Laos’ independence from foreign rule.
The monument’s design is famously inspired by the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but it incorporates traditional Lao architectural motifs, including Buddhist symbolism and intricate mythological carvings.
The structure features multiple archways, detailed ceilings painted with scenes from Lao mythology and history, and staircases leading to an upper viewing platform, which offers panoramic views of Vientiane city. It is widely regarded as a symbol of national pride, independence, and cultural identity for the Lao people.
