
Haiti's government imposed a nightly curfew and other restrictions on Monday. Restrictions followed a decree of emergency issued by President Jovenel Moise. The new decree calls for mandatory use of face masks, public and private establishments must have handwashing stations and perform temperature checkups at entrance.
Public Institutions should work with only half of the personnel, encouraging other employees to work from home. According to official government statistics, Haiti has had 13,906 cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began in March of last year and 288 deaths. But a recent surge in daily cases of contagion has prompted authorities to declare the state of health emergency for the next week. Haiti has not yet begun to vaccinate its population but recently announced the health campaign will begin in June.
