Union Minister for Health Dr Thet Khaing Win met with officials from Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunization (GAVI), World Health Organization (WHO), and UNICEF at the Ministry in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the Union Minister explained that Myanmar is accelerating nationwide immunization activities, including routine, catch-up, and special vaccination programs for children under 15 years old. He noted that after restoring security in Kyaukme, Hsipaw, and Naungcho townships, basic healthcare and vaccination services had resumed quickly, supported by solar-powered cold storage systems.
He said no outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases occurred after the recent Mandalay earthquake, and added that plans are underway to implement Measles-Rubella (MRSIA) and HPV vaccination programs nationwide in the second and third quarters of 2026.
The Union Minister expressed appreciation to Gavi, WHO, and UNICEF for their cooperation and support in ensuring vaccination coverage for pregnant women and children across the country. Both sides also discussed future immunization programs and Myanmar’s GAVI 6.0 funding proposal.
