Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday brushed aside accusations that he fled the country and said he was working on returning to Afghanistan.
Ghani fled Afghanistan on Sunday, just as the Taliban approached Kabul, and his whereabouts remained unknown until Wednesday, when the United Arab Emirates said it has accepted him and his family on account of "humanitarian considerations."

In a video posted to Facebook, Ghani defended abandoning Kabul as the Taliban advanced, describing it as a way to "prevent bloodshed". He also indirectly tried to push back on rumors he left with millions of dollars.
