German defence minister speaks in Tokyo

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius met his Japanese counterpart Yasukazu Hamada in Tokyo on Saturday to discuss bilateral defence cooperation and work to "strengthen a free and open Indo-Pacific."

Hamada talked up the cooperation of Germany and Japan as the world faced "a severe security environment." Japan has welcomed Germany visibly deepening its engagement in the Indo-Pacific in recent years. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz was also in Japan for talks with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
