Furniture made of palm trunk: It’s a substitution of teakwood

In MyinMu township, Sagaing Region, the old palm trees are used for substitution of teakwood in making furniture and being sold. 

Previously, the palm trees were used in construction of building and as firewood because the timber of palm tree is relatively hard. Besides, they have beautiful color like teakwood and it can be acquired and bought with affordable price.

Now, ordered furniture pieces are being made by using the raw materials of the trunks of old palm trees. The palm trees furniture are especially being used in the hotels. Now, not only abroad but also local customers order palm trees furniture.

So, high value added products are being made by using palm trees. Currently, in the market, the price of a settee made with old palm trunks is about 3 million kyat, it’s learnt.
