Funfairs & Sports Activities: Yangon Residentsmark74thindependence Day Celebration

To mark the 74th Anniversary Independence Day, Yangon residents celebrated the national holiday in more typical form with street games, sports competitions and funfairs.

The staff families of Myanmar Radio and Television also conducted sports events in the MRTV staff compound in Yangon. The event aimed to having fun, more unity, friendship and cooperation among each other.

Win Thu, Deputy Director General, Myanma Radio and Television said “Our Head-office is in Nay Pyi Taw. There are five staff housing compounds in Yangon. We aim these activities for having fun, happiness and relieving stress of our staff family members. It also intends to have family spirit and more friendship and cooperation among each other.”

The sports activities are annually conducted on the Independence Day to have fun and physical fitness for the children but the event was suspended last year because of the pandemic, one of the staff family members said. 

Tun Tun, Staff Officer (MRTV) said “This place is Nanat Taw staff housing compound of MRTV. Nearly 100 staff families live here. There are 13 sports events such as sack jumping race, snack eating, running and so on. We hold annually sports events and funfairs on Independence Day and Union Day. We suspended the events in the previous year because of COVID-19. We are very satisfied with holding this event.”

The residents took the streets to mark the celebration with a wide range of traditional sports events and competitions.

Participant, Htet Akar Htun (Student) said “I won third prize in the race and 2nd prize in balloon popping. But, I lose in tug of war. I feel very happy and excited to participate in the events.”

Winners of the events were awarded with prizes by officials. Similarly, such kinds of sports activities and funfairs and were held by ministries, staff families and communities in Nay Pyi Taw council area on the national holiday.
