Since the Russian military operation, fuel prices have risen dramatically across Europe with wide-ranging consequences.

Engelhardt, spokesman for the German Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal said the "extreme" rises in the prices of E10 fuel and diesel had come so quickly some of the association's members were unable to pass on those costs, putting them at risk of insolvency.

The conflict in Ukraine has raised fears of supply disruptions or even a ban on oil imports from Russia, leading to the rise in prices.

More than 70% of the fuel supply in Germany is transported by trucks - primarily by medium-sized transport companies, which are hit hardest by rising fuel prices - according to the government.
