Forestry Sector: Forest Conservation Works Discussed

The Department of Forest under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation is implementing national forest project, district forest management project and afforestation project, aiming for development of forest sector while fulfilling the needs of people and avoiding the deforestation with balanced eco-system and diverse environment.

The Ministry held a coordination meeting on reviewing the completed works and ongoing projects in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday. Union Minister U KhinMaung Yi said at present, over 25% of the country’s area have been designated as the forest reserves with 1,270 in numbers while 47 natural reservation areas have been designated with 6.09% of the country’s area.

He stressed the needs to establish monsoon forest plantations, village firewood plantations, mangrove forest plantations and conservation works. He urged all to make efforts for successful implementation of the short and long-term projects of respective regions and states.
