About 4,000 households have been affected by flooding and more than 16,000 hectares farmland have been damaged in central Thailand, officials said on Tuesday, after a river burst its banks following heavy monsoon rains.

Riverside areas of Bangkok are bracing as officials warned that incoming rains could cause flooding in the capital. Heavy rains caused the shallow river Yom to overflow its banks in Sukhothai province. Director of the Sukhothai Provincial Irrigation Project said that they’re finding ways to handle the floods and the teams were using water pumps to move the waters.

Thai Prime Minister said the flooding was concerning because of the prolonged rainfall in the area, adding that he was in touch with the Royal Irrigation Department's deputy director-general.
