Flood Mitigation Measures : Embankments and flood-control facilities inspected

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw inspected embankments and flood-control facilities in Myanaung and Maubin districts on August 13 and 14.

The Deputy Minister inspected bank erosion near the dumping site of the Myanaung embankment, erosion-control and maintenance works, emergency supplies, embankment strength and flood-control duty arrangements. He also heard reports on emergency plans and local cooperation.

In response to the reports, the Deputy Minister instructed officials to take timely preventive measures, promptly transport emergency supplies to needy areas by land or water routes and conduct flood prevention and emergency drills in villages for rapid response.

The Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems also coordinated measures to reduce riverbank erosion.

The Deputy Minister and officials then inspected water-control stations in Danubyu, Nyaungdon and Maubin townships, as well as the riverbank erosion site near Latahgyi  Village in Kyaiklat Township. During the inspection, local authorities and relevant departments were instructed to work together around the clock, to prevent damage to embankments.
