



The fishery sector is playing vital role for the food security, food safety, nutritional improvement and the job creation for the people. according to the statistics of 2019-2020 fiscal year, the fishery sector contributed 4.7% to the country’s GDP.
The 6 billion Kyats of revenue was raised from the fishery sector in 2020-2021 fiscal year and 786 million USD were earned from the exports of fishery products, that is 2 million of USD is being received per day in average from the fishery sector. These statistics were reported in connection with the coordination meeting on the development of fisheries sector held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, Nay Pyi Taw on 22nd December.
The meeting was attended by the Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo, deputy minister Dr. Aung Gyi and senior officials and the head officers of the fishery department from the regions and states.
At the meeting, the union minister said that the fishery sector is facilitating for the food security and nutritional improvement and job creation and income generating for the people. It’s needed to share knowledge, educate and supervise to adhere to the standards of Blue Ocean Economy not to deplete the marine resources and sustainability for long term etc.
Next, the deputy minister discussed the processes to be supplemented in the projects and works of fishery department in the regions and states as per the fiscal year, mitigation of staff turnover and building capacity for individual staff.
Then, the director general of fishery department clarified the implementations and works to be implemented in accord with the fiscal year and the head officers of the department from the region and states reported completion of work implementations and work reviews in the relevant regions.
