Fishery resources conservation: Meetings on designating no-fishing season and areas

Since 2012-2013, the meetings on the designation of no-fishing season and no-fishing areas have been held with the participation of stakeholders.

According to status of fishing industry in Myanmar's sea and the existence of fish and prawn resources in the waters and the research and observations of Norwegian marine research vessel Dr. Fridtjof Nansen on hatching of fish species in the Myanmar’s sea, April, May and June were designated as no-fishing season in 2021-2022 and no-fishing areas were set.

A meeting on designating no-fishing season and no-fishing season for 2022-2023 was held at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on Tuesday. Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Aung Gyi, representatives from Region/State Governments, relevant ministries and officials from concerned departments attended the meeting.

At the meeting, the Deputy Minister said that no-fishing season and no-fishing area will be set for 2022-2023 by reviewing presentations of experts from various fields and research findings in the meeting.

Similarly, efforts will be made for the formation of an inspection team to supervise and inspect during no-fishing season. He called for cooperating in the development of livestock production in addition to measurers for catching and extracting fish resources.
