Fisheries Industry: 400,000 Fingerlings Released Into Ayeyawady River

With the aim of promoting fishery industry and preventing from scarcity of fish resources, the Fisheries Department is undertaking to release fingerlings into lakes, paddy fields, creeks and rivers across the country.

On 26th August morning, the Katha District Fisheries Department held a ceremony to release fingerlings into Ayeyawaddy River.   

A total of 400,000 fingerlings were released into the river to develop fishery industry, get more income for the region and provide a fair deal for consumers in the region.

Head of Department, Fisheries Department (Katha District), Tun Hla Aung said “Freshwater fish resources are on the decrease during these years. So, we have to prevent the scarcity of the fish resources as soon as possible. At the same time, we need to keep the fish production for long-term consumption. That’s why such fingerlings releasing ceremonies are held across the country.”  

The department is also conducting the activity for awareness raising among the public to promote the fishery industry.

Head of Department, Fisheries Department (Katha District), Tun Hla Aung said “Our department has been conducting the public awareness on unsystematic fish catching across the country since 1991. Especially, fish catching is restricted in May, June and July to keep the fish reproduction.”

The Katha District Fisheries Department has also released 400,000 fingerlings in the river of HtiCheint  Township and other fingerlings release ceremonies will be conducted in Indaw and Bamauk Townships.
