Fish Conservation: Hilsa Fish Conservation And Market Promotion Workshop

It’s important to conserve Hilsa fish in the country as the number of fish caught declines while the size of the caught ones is small – Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Tin Htut Oo made the remark in the Hilsa fish conservation and market promotion workshop at the Ministry, and highlighted that some countries in Bay of Bengal have Hilsa fish conservation zone.

Also, Deputy Minister Dr. Aung Gyi said that all stakeholders have to participate in the Hilsa fish conservation, and awareness programmes are necessary. Myanmar has been implementing National Biodiversity and Strategic Action Plan (NBSAP) and Blue Economy For the Blue Ocean.

This workshop continued with discussions on data on socio economic life of fishermen, market research, Hilsa fish breeding and migration, government-private cooperation on research and short-term and long-term plans for Hilsa fish conservation and market promotion.
