First pediatric kidney transplant succeeds in Viet Nam

In Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese surgeons from Children’s Hospital-1 had successfully performed its first-ever kidney transplant on a child, following years of preparation. The successful operation made a huge step forward for Viet Nam’s healthcare system, especially in pediatric care.

The surgery lasted more than six hours and presented multiple challenges for the surgeon team, including complex donor anatomy involving duplicated kidney structures and abnormal positioning.
