First ethnic minority women’s football tournament kicks off in Viet Nam

On Sunday, the inaugural VTV Cup 2026, Viet Nam’s first football tournament for ethnic minority women, officially opened at Nghĩa Lộ Ward Stadium in Lào Cai Province.

The tournament brings together 12 teams from nine localities. It runs from August 23 to 29, with the final and closing ceremony scheduled for August 29. One of the tournament’s unique features is that the teams will compete in kits inspired by their traditional ethnic attire. The competition is about promoting grassroots sports while helping preserve the cultural identities of ethnic communities.
