Firefighters come out in force to contain blaze in central Greece

Teams of firefighters rushed to contain a wildfire in lush forest and agricultural land in central Greece on Wednesday to prevent it from reaching populated areas.

More than 170 firefighters, 42 fire engines, 10 airplanes and 6 helicopters were called in from across the country to the town of Tanagra in the Viotia region. Two people were evacuated from a monastery in the area. during the summer months, strong winds and sizzling temperatures in Greece spark wildfires around the country, often caused by neglect or even arson.
