Filipina mothers patrol the nights to curb drug killings in Philippine town

A group of Filipina mothers are patrolling the streets of a Philippine town at night where a death squad once killed dozens of people believed to be selling or using drugs. With flashlights on hand, they patrol the narrow streets and alleyways of Pateros where a killing spree of rumoured drug users and pushers once happened during President Rodrigo Duterte's drug war in 2016. The women were credited by the community for the zero number of deaths there after they started patrols in late 2016.

The patrols started in late-2016 in the Manila suburb of 63,000 people when three of the group's family members were shot dead, among the thousands killed during Duterte's crackdown. Duterte and his centrepiece drug war is popular, despite international alarm and opinion polls that show most Filipinos believe that many human rights abuses are being committed, including extrajudicial killings.
