The Shan State Library Development and Reading Promotion Festival was opened on January 24 at No. (10) Basic Education High School in Taunggyi. The event was organized to encourage students to develop good reading habits and to promote library culture.

The opening ceremony was attended by Shan State Chief Minister U Aung Aung, state ministers, officials, teachers, and students. During the event, students participated in reading, storytelling, poetry recitation, essay writing, quizzes, and various educational games.

Exhibitions of books, science displays, photo galleries, and school libraries were also showcased. Officials and guests toured the activities and provided food and support to students. The Chief Minister said that reading promotion activities are being carried out in line with national guidance, with support from the Myanmar Library Development Committee and regional governments.

He said 13 reading festivals were held in Shan State in 2024, and 14 more are planned across southern, eastern, and northern Shan State in 2025. Donations of books and cash for school and township libraries were also presented, followed by the traditional Shan and Kayah cultural dance performances and literary talks.
