The EU unveiled Wednesday plans to address the energy crisis triggered by the war in the Middle East, including improved monitoring of jet fuel supplies as the prospect of shortages rattle Europe ahead of the summer travel season.

Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy & Housing said "This must be a wake-up call and a turning point when Europe steps away from fossil fuel dependence and steps toward clean energy autonomy, because now it is more obvious than ever. Clean energy means security. It means affordability. It means independence." Rather than any flagship measures, Brussels outlined recommendations for member states and initiatives to be presented as part of helping navigate current and future straits.
